Burning Blue- Quinn's Tournament Winner Undefeated

Giraffe 141

First of all I'd like to give a shout-out to everyone who organised and participated in Quinn's tournament, it was a really awesome day :)

Now onto the exciting part, I get to do the whole publishing my winning deck thing :D

But seriously, this deck is monstrous. It's fast, it's fun, and it'll burn your house down. The aim of the deck is to build up and get rich really quickly, and start rushing out agendas. Draw aggressively and try to get Project Atlas counters so that once the runner has caught up with your fast start, you have the means to Scorched Earth them if they stop you from scoring out. The silly thing with this deck is that once you have the kill combo available you really don't mind if the runner steals an agenda, in most of my games I knew I had won halfway through and so was completely indifferent to the runner trying to stop me scoring. A note here is just how good Midseason Replacements is now that I've Had Worse is a thing, if you suspect it drown 'em in tags n wait to triple scorch :)

I would like to say at this point that this isn't a massively original deck, I just have no idea how to do the derived from thing :') Blue Sun: Powering the Future interested me so I looked at some decklists and combined them with my own ideas to create a rush rather than a glacier or hard kill deck. I noticed a lot of decks ran late game seal the game types of cards, such as Biotic Labor, Ash 2X3ZB9CY and Janus 1.0 (yaaaaay HB :D), which in brief playtesting made them feel too inconsistent. In my opinion Blue Sun's late game is more than strong enough, I wanted to build a deck that focused on securing the early game. The deck runs a lot of cheap ice to protect centrals and build a secure remote. At this point get crazy rich by tutoring out Adonis Campaign with Executive Boot Camp, and also do the Oversight AI Curtain Wall combo whenever available (providing you see no way of the runner breaking it cheaply). Then start rushing out agendas, at which point you can quite easily have around 40 Credits (silly I know). But what if you don't draw into these combos? Meet chief bacon savers Hostile Takeover and Geothermal Fracking. If the combos aren't coming don't wait around for them, just play fast and use Blue Sun's ability to never quite go broke, and try to score one of the aforementioned agendas. Sure you have to bite the bullet and take some bad publicity (why does everyone hate fracking so much :( ) but it'll allow you to keep playing faster than the runner can deal with.

In conclusion, this deck is awesome :) I know it's nothing amazing, it's just a more aggressive take on an already good archetype, but it won me an awesome playmat so I love it :)

If runners are getting you down don't resort to Near-Earth Hub: Broadcast Center fast advance or Jinteki: Replicating Perfection glacier, play balls to the wall in a roaring explosion of blue fire. And if they try to steal your balls, burn that runner to the ground. Want a not god awful analogy? Tough, there's no time for that. Weyland doesn't do analogies, Weyland does results.

Props up to another Weyland player that gets a SC with a Weyland deck!. Congratz on the win mate!

Thanks :) Who needs fast advance when you can burn their house down right :P If you're interested here is my runner deck, it was also undefeated netrunnerdb.com

You seem to be so obsessed with " burning houses down", that it makes me wonder if you ever played a kill deck before? As you mentioned in your write-up, this deck has been around for a while (and the kill-decks in general).

Congratz on the win, but all this seems pretty standard to me :)

btw I'd probably have a Elizabeth Mills in this deck, considering all the bad pub it can generate. Also Elizabeth Mills is way better in BS.

Ah a comment from the notorious Dydra :') An important note is that this really isn't a kill deck, it is just a secondary win condition for if the runner catches up to your fast start. So yeah my comments about "burning houses down" aren't the most sincere statements, however as Letsaros probably understands a love of Weyland tends to stem from going "oh you're trying to mess with my game plan? Yeah you die :)" Especially in a meta where I've Had Worse is common I don't believe all-in scorch decks are viable (hence why some decks run even more meat damage I guess). And yes this isn't the most original deck, however most writeups of similar decks said they weren't entirely happy, and as I mentioned I believe this to be because they need to focus on locking down the early game more. And I did try Elizabeth Mills at one point but found it to be too slow, also using the bad publicity ability on Geothermal Fracking should only be used when you haven't yet found one of the money generating combos. Oh and thanks :) Hope this clears things up a bit.

Very cool deck! I am experimenting with a similar one. I was wondering if you've tried Elizabeth Mills? She breaks bad pub on rez, and Blue Sun can bounce her back to your hand indefinitely. I've enjoyed it but havent seen it used much, so I wonder what I'm missing.

Ah, I see someone beat me to the punch with that suggestion. Should have read all the comments first. My bad :)

Might be worth mentioning that this was my beginner tournament, dude! :D

Quinns in the title i did put that this was your tournament :) But yeah, was a really good day :) I'd never really played apart from with a couple of friends, so playing in a tournament was kinda intimidating but ultimately was a lot of fun :)

And KitsuAeryn, as I mentioned before I don't think Mills is necessary because the deck only needs to ramp up bad pub if it's behind on money. As another note, Mills isn't necessary to block Blackmail either because Executive Boot Camp can rez ice.

Bet I'm not the only one who thought you meant Quinton Smith :)

I've been running a similar but somewhat more janky BS deck with 3x Mills and Janus in it. I agree that Janus is very much a late game win card, but I love using it so much :) Also a good OAI target against non-Shaper (because Deus Ex). As for Mills, you're right that you should only be using the Fracking ability in emergencies, but you're gonna score 1-2 Hostiles in almost every game and even 1 BP can really hurt you against many runners in the long run (particularly Shaper again, as they can use it to fund SMC/Clone Chip/Workshop). Mills fixes that, making sure your ICE is taxing enough to let you land the Midseasons. The other cool thing she lets you do is run some of the super-nasty Illicit ICE like Grim with no real downside.

Yeahh Janus is hilarious :) I tried it briefly but I found I prefer the speed and consistency of data ravens. Something I did consider was running 2x Janis and the Twins and using Project Atlas to tutor for the 2nd one if they hit it :) And damn everyone loves Ms Mills :') As I said, this is a rush deck. Mills is a good card but I just don't want the tempo hit in a deck that's designed to keep the runner one step behind. I found in most games the runner only made a handful of successful runs so I didn't mind the bad pub.
