Beating not_yeti with two Big Balls (10th in Nott. Regional)

TheRealLap 114

Core:

Following the tradition of not heeding kikai's advice, we have once again taken the ashiko core and jam in pet cards. The star of the show is Fermenter which has yield me +20 credits in total through the tournament across 3 runner games. In a world where corps cannot purge due to rushing at the speed of light, fermenter is our rezeki to throw ourselves ahead after our opponents negligence. Is it always good to include? Probably, it likely provides more econ than most run events and I have yet to miss raindrops.

The Clickbait - My Feud with not_yeti

To begin with, you can find not_yetis channel here. Where you get to enjoy quality content and the history of how dial EA for murder has came to be. They are an amazing player and one of the many forces that helped made these regionals possible. So please send him all the love and support you can.

On towards the juicy gossip/tea.

My first interaction with not_yeti began in UK nats after him sweeping me on stream in revenge of his teammate and essentially kicking me out of cut possibility.
*Very rude of him* 😠

Fast-forward to a week before Nottingham regional, I was helping my boyfriend, Max, locking down their Corp decklist, after our failed experiment in Sheffield CO. He was leaning towards the home turf of Regenesis Aginf and earlier in the day I have planted the idea of us both going glacier aginf together as a couple.

Imagine my surprise when the following happened:

"Hey Lap, I don't think I will be playng Aginf anymore. I found a RH deck I quite like."

Understandable, Bridgeman is a very good player and his RH list performed very well.

"It is by some one called not_yeti."

Oh....

Disappointment

As time passes, our paths crossed once again as I was looking to set up a pre-regional gathering for the night before Nottingham Regionals. After adding not_yeti to the group, I thought I would cheekily message that I look forward to being swept by him as joke. He responded that I should better pack caldera which is a very cute tech card for the Azmari kill deck.

How kind of him. πŸ™ƒ

After helping lew crudely setting up for Regionals due to hasty relocation from dice cup to leadbelt, I finally get to meet the menace himself. After exchanging greetings and talking about hosh in which he try to persuade me to do last minute deck change to fit boomerang, he revealed to me that he is bringing punitive RH to Regionals instead of Azmari kill.
The exact deck that Max is bringing.
The exact deck that I have not practiced against.

Well frick...
Thus is fine... 🫠

"Surely I won't be matched against you tomorrow into one of my worst match up, " I said with a panicking smile before bidding fair well.

The Game

Round 6 on the day, I looked up who I will be playing against as runner and there I see a smiling not_yeti giving me a wave from table 12.

I am ecstatic. 🫠

We engage in some friendly banter before the round start, he expressed his joy of being matched against me due to how easy the game would be as I was so defeatist. I, in return, called for my friend, harmonbee, who was judging and requested a game loss to be given due to "opponent engaging in psychological warfare" and was disappointed at how swiftly it was denied.

Even my friends left me. πŸ₯²

My battle against not_yeti is mine, mine alone.

The first sign of not_yeti's crumbling house of cards after mulligan, is the lack of remote in the first 3 turns despite monster econ.
*Has he bricked?*

Eventually, he posed the Regenesis question by setting up a triple iced remote. Time to concede 4 points as my breakers are not fully online...

Advance,
Advance,
Hansei.

What?

Surely we are not slow rolling a Regenesis right?
Can this be possible?
They are manually pushing out 5/3 ?

Score Bacterial add nothing, trash nothing.

Huh, do we have pieces in archive already?

Run HQ, single access.
Steal Regenesis through pure skill( luck). This game is now very much in our favor, though our resource(stack) is running low.

The Regenesis question is then posed once more, but this time we can contest without the threat of punitive for 6. The only possible kill would be from double punitive and with third punitive to tax my credits. Trying to reverse engineer the punitive formula is not fun.

Gamble, Gamble, Ashen.

Double steelskin now in hand, even if my maths is off, there is still 90% chance of living through double punitive.

Run archives, break ice, steal Bacterial.
On stolen, add 7.

Mandatory draw.
not_yeti thought for equal amount of time as he push through the punitive maths.

Punitive boosted, matched;
YDL;
Install and overwrite.

We lived?
We lived! The endgame was then pretty trivial with the Regenesis question now in my scoring area, a refreshed stack and a full rig. Two more turns later, with the power of pokemons and T-posing EsΓ’, the final 3 points left not_yeti's hands and into my scoring area.

Thus settling down our one-sided feud.

10/10 - Would beat not_yeti again with big deck energy. 😊

Thank you for lew and harmonbee for running this tournament. And if you are curious about the aftermath between me and not_yeti - we both agree we should find space for boomerang afterwards. Fingers crossed, he doesn't unfriend me on discord after this goes out.

See you next time in the next episode of story time with Lap - this time featuring a love story with Snare!.

How was Trickster Taka? Outside of that it looks like pretty standard Ashnikko but I was always under the impression that you usually win before Taka is relevant.

@Meathir - The main role of the companions is to fuel The Twinning, as such we need them to consistently be spent, Paladin fails in this regard, as we aren't actually installing that many cards.

The choice of Taka is from Snare Bears and given that we should be running during the game, it is more consistent in value and doesn't tax us a click.

As for number of companion, it is to match the two twinning we have and each are unique so duplicate would be waste.

If you are on Boomerang build, I would hesitate to the make the switch though I still think taka would likely serve you better.
