Rooty Tooty Rig All Shooty (4th Place at Startup Worlds)

Ghost Meat 962

This is the deck The Turbo Team of myself, hams, and Sindarin cooked up for Startup at Worlds. The Turbo Team is a mini sub-enclave of House Hippos consisting of just us three, our thread consisting mostly of I Think You Should Leave/Netrunner mashup jokes. We came 19th in Crown of Servers on Friday. Props to Sindarin for naming this deck.

Props again to Sindarin for naming my Mercury deck too.

We slapped this together in the week before Worlds, hoping we would all make Top 16 and not have to use it, but alas, we all did (have to use it). Hams decided on an AMAZE Amusements instead of a second Behold!, and a Funhouse instead of The Holo Man, while Sindarin went for a third Regolith Mining License instead of a third Hedge Fund, after a pro-tip morning-of from the NOW WORLD CHAMPION, Aruzan, our Vancouver meta-mate, who swore by this choice in his WORLDS-WINNING R+ deck, since its getting trashed turns on Oppo Research, and clearing one early basically sets you up for econ for the rest of the game.

The core conceit of the deck here is either to murder the runner with Mindscaping, or blow their rig apart with Retribution and lock them out forever with a lot of End the Run ice (even sentries with Rototurret). The runner has to carefully consider both options and thread the needle, with a high need to WALK SLOWLY. Until they're part of this Turbo Team, we're the ones who run.

The deck went 3-1 for me on the day, with wins against Zahya Sadeghi: Versatile Smuggler, Mercury: Chrome Libertador, Tāo Salonga: Telepresence Magician, and a loss against a Conduit Zahya Sadeghi: Versatile Smuggler that dug my R&D hard before Hammer could blow up the Conduit, and I managed to stick eight tags, blowing up their fracter and killer. A well-timed Inside Job to steal the winning Project Beale when I was poor sealed the deal before I could find the Mindscapings in time.

Always Be Running event page for Startup

This deck was a riot to play, and though I basically never play Startup, I had a great time of it all day with lovely opponents.

Huge thanks to NSG and the volunteers for making Worlds 2024 such an amazing event!
