[Sunset] One Hit Wonder (2-1 at Feb Sunset AMT)

Stwyde 33

This deck is both, very unoptimized at the moment, and very funny when it works.

Thank you to the judges (jan tuno and Kror) for hosting a phenomenal event!

It went 2-1 at the February Sunset AMT, with Toron and I IDing as I was exhausted (it was about 7am my time when round 4 started)

Originally this was developed as a way for me to try to practice out concepts from The Metropole Grid's Find the Agendas video

Credit to Tyranda who two months ago kept beating me over and over with a similar deck!

When this deck pops off, it's hilarious, and in JNet Casual games I tested it in, there definitely was some salt after the game, as this deck can easily catch opponents off guard with a massive swing (current record is 8 points off a single run). Accessing an average of 3-4 cards per run gives you a lot of information, but you don't really have resources to waste.

Game Plan

Your game plan is really simple with this deck. Get the The Twinning and a Prepaid VoicePAD out. Play events and poke servers. Get 4-ish counters on #The Twinning. Play Chrysopoeian Skimming and await the corp's response. If they don't show from hand, check if the top 3 of R&D have anything worth stealing. If they show from HQ. Run anyways! Finally, play Divide and Conquer, hit Archives and bypass any ICE, and use 2 Twinning Counters + Mercury's ability on your target server (You can choose to skip HQ, and then get an extra access in R&D).

This leads to a single run where with Docklands Pass, you access 4 from HQ, 3 from R&D, and one extra card from either from Mercury's ability.

Now if the corp is aware of your plans, they'll ICE up archives, which is fine because it means they're wasting time ICEing up archives and you can Inside Job if needed, or more preferably S-Dobrado, your target server. In a pinch, you can also utilize Abagnale to bypass a code gate, or have Curupira break a barrier.

In 3 games, I broke subroutines on ICE once. And generally I don't break subroutines at all when possible.

Questions

Why the breakers?

First, SDS Drone Deployment exists in Sunset, and the earliest version of this deck had no programs, would hit SDS, and then cry. Laser Pointer can help avoid potentially problematic situations with scary sentries too.

Note that at least Curupira and Abagnale have ways to let you bypass ICE. Abagnale then can act as an emergency bypass tool when contesting a remote.

Falsified Credentials? Why?

Twinning counter, and it lets me see the contents of a remote before deciding if I need to contest it. We have a finite amount of resources before this deck runs out of gas, so contesting a remote and getting baited into wasting resources is awful.

Stoneship?

Anansi exists and even if you bypass it, the 3 net damage still procs. I have a tendency to not respect the spider, and flatlining, so Stoneship Chart Room is more of a reactive "time to put an escape hatch" tool in this deck. Originally it was a Hush but I tend to aggressively facecheck ICE in order to force rezzing, which means I don't have a window to preemptively Hush like Arissana can.

What matchups are awful?

Ob Superheavy Logistics: Extract. Export. Excel.. Oh my is this matchup tough. A lot of information that you can gleam in terms of what cards are in hand or on the top of R&D can be immediately removed responsively by Ob's ability which shuffles R&D. Especially since there's a window for the corp to react after Chrysopoeian Skimming, depending on what action you take, the corp can pretty easily deny you.

Oddly Jinteki in general can be a tough matchup. Namely because so much of the ICE doesn't end the run but rather chips net damage, it's easy to get overaggressive and just flatline to ICE like Anansi.

Broader Issues

The econ in this deck is subpar. I found myself often scraping for credits to make runs, and if Bellona was legal in Sunset, this wouldn't work at all.

I'm not sure how necessary Rip Deal is here. If you run HQ, you can maybe get 3-5 cards back from the stack (if you spend Twinning Counters). This is mostly there to help get back events and Backstitching, but honestly, I haven't used it because if I run out of gas, I lose anyways.
