I'm teaching some new players Netrunner and we are using System Gateway and System Update 21 as a stepping stone before arriving at the Startup format. The leap up to Startup is intimidating, let alone the jump from Startup to Standard! To help in this leap, here are some notes on how to play and build decks in a relatively restricted card pool.
I built this runner to show off a different style of runner compared to those in Gateway. Here the aim is to control the corp's credits by prodding their servers just enough so they rez ICE. With Reina Roja: Freedom Fighter's ability, you ideally want one rez a turn.
Firstly, we need to give the corp a reason to want to rez their ICE. This may seem counterintuitive as that's its sole purpose, but good corp players won't "snap" rez ICE without thinking about other servers and cards in hand, and often the runner spending a click to see just one card in HQ or R&D is a fine trade. Cards like Imp, Docklands Pass and Leech give extra benefits to the runner and make the question to rez harder for the corp.
There are also some tricks in the deck to synergise with the ID, trying to derez ICE (Emergency Shutdown, Tranquilizer), making it even more costly (Tread Lightly, Xanadu) or, holy hell, even punishing non-rezs (En Passant). The balance is to not go all-out on these tricks and still include the fundamentals. Every deck still needs money and draw so don't forget those in your own lists!
Finally, the icebreaker suite is worth mentioning especially Mimic which needs Leech support to break sentries with strength greater than 4. Buzzsaw is similar with an expensive cost to boost strength that you would rather not use. Therefore, this deck runs Corroder rather than Cleaver as the former still operates well without Leech counters. Again, its a case of not going all-in on a single approach and letting a single purge lock you out all servers.

I just want you to know that the "Holy hell" reference is spotted and appreciated |
Just found this list, it has a flavor of Death & Taxes from MTG. Will test it today
