Palana Grail Upgrade Spam(1st Place, Wasteland Games SC, Atl

AwesomeOosh 68

Hi everyone!

This is the Palana deck I took to the wasteland SC on 1/29/2017. The deck went 4-2 on the day Quorum was legal but I did not include any cards from it. I thought about putting a macrophage in, but this build doesn't care too much about viruses.

This deck is largely based on the From One, An Army list with some changes that I will list below.

You can watch me pilot this deck at:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/118266803 (at around the 5 hours and 45 minute mark)

Card choices: 1 Clone Retirement. I went down to 1 archer only, and I also felt fewer agendas in the deck was better. If I'm going against Valencia, I would only need to score out one of these to get rid of a single bad pub. Any more in the deck increases the chances that they get the bad pub back.

Removed Mumbad City Grid: In my play testing, I never got this to fire. With Sifr + parasite everywhere, it is very unlikely that you will have a 2-3 iced server. My opponent who was running this list in the grand finals told me that he was unable to fire it at all, so I felt my call was correct.

Friends in High Places: This card was teh MVP for this deck, hands down. It brought back ice that was destroyed, but more importantly, it brought back batty/caprice.

I took out the enigmas in favor of a crick to put on archives for more recursion, and many runners like to temujin archives. I put 2 lotus field in so they wouldn't get parasite'd away. and I went down to 1 DNA tracker because it's expensive to rez just to have it die to Sifr+Parasite and is not a good batty target.

Cobra: Basically an Archer replacement. It still gets the program trashing done, and I don't have to sac an agenda!

Excalibur: I wanted 16 ice, and felt like I could pull some cheeky moves with this (I didn't). The idea was that at worst, I could use it as a Batty target. Will probably replace this with another cobra.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Most of my games weren't anything special, so I won't go into them here. I didn't even really trash anyone's rigs on the day. If they kill Caprice or Batty just recur it with Friends. If you get Scarcity in your opening hand, play it. Otherwise, only play it as a reaction to runner currents. Rumor Mill kills this deck, but that's what the scarcity's are for and the one of clone retirement. Ultimately, the idea behind this deck is:

1) Win psi games. 2) Don't lose psi games.

Looks like a very solid palana build for the post-sifr environment, friends is definitely the right call. I feel that you could even swap archer (as it sucks when they sifr-site it) and exaclibur for another FiHP and maybe a wraparound.

Congratulations on your win.

Thanks!

Excalibur maybe fired once on the day. And I never even rezzed Archer. I found that I was usually at 6 points and then just scored clone retirement from hand. I think 2 Friends is right for this deck, and 3 might be overkill. I'll test it out!

I would definitely cut Archer and Exclibur for either 1 Wraparound + 1 Friends or for 2 Wraparound. I like having more ice in the deck, so my intuition says more ice.

Congrats Oosh! Super excited to see Caprice and her awkward co-worker Batty taking down tournaments again. Might have to dust off my psi-game skills and give this deck a shot! Thank you for posting and giving a good write up!

Thanks Ve!

In most of my games, I either bid zero or two credits on every psi game. It's a really fun deck to pilot and puts the runner in difficult spots.

If you try this out, I'd do the suggested changes of removing the Archer and Excalibur and adding in 2 Wraparound.

Again, decks with Salsette Slums and Rumor Mill tear this deck to pieces. So if your opponent is running those, save your Voter Intimidation for the salsette and get rid of the rumor mill any way you can.
