Can't Take My Ice Off You

MollyMillions 41

  • Lots of options to increase number of clicks (Biotic Labour, Director Haas, Efficiency Committee, etc)

  • Small agendas intended to be installed and scored in a single turn (using all those extra clicks & SanSan City Grid).

  • Most out-of-faction card allowance used to beef up Ice coverage.

  • Rest of cards used to boost credit economy. (Also some Research Stations, because when is that ever a bad idea??)

  • Oh, and Cerebral Overwriter if you feel like setting a trap ;)

I should probably replace either the Enigmas or the Rototurrets with a couple of Ice Walls.

Quandary > Enigma by far ... also I don't understand the Data Ravens? You don't have ANY tag punishment cards ( Closed Accounts/ Scorch). Also would consider Victor 2.0 > over Victor 1.0

I don't see a point in Research Stations, unless they compliment your deck. If you WANT to actually use your Data Ravens, you should swap those 2 for 2x Closed Accounts.

You might need a bit of more economy as well. You have only 7 econ cards? I always run my corp decks with at least 9. Especially if you are heavy on walls, you would want money. Not to mention that Hadrian and Heimdall actually cost money.

If I were you, I'd cut out Minelayer and get some more econ on its place. It's generally a weak ICE and it covers the install cost not the rezz cost.

Yeah, something like Caduceus, Shadow, or even Pop-Up Window might help more than Data Raven, it seems like? Viktor 2.0 is, in most respects, a straight-up improvement to Viktor 1.0.

I have to agree with Dydra about Research Station, too -- if you're not able to play a card each turn and keep your hand-size down, it should be because you're using all your clicks to use Melange or installing a bunch of things/scoring out. Handsize increase for the corp tends not to be too terribly important, I think. Replacing those with Jackson or _____ Level Clearance (depending on if you want the influence there or elsewhere) will help with your economy some, too, if that is an issue.

I'm curious why Eli's out, since it's such a powerfully taxing Barrier to combine with the other Bioroids you've got. It might do more for you than Ice Wall (though that/Paper Wall are rarely bad choices for early-game Ice).

Blanket response to all of these points: I'm new to the game :)

Re: Quandary, Caduceus, Pop-Up Window, Eli, Jackson Howard, [X] Level Clearance: I just plain don't have those cards, so they're not in the mix for me.

Research Stations: I just want to maximise my options. I want to be able to hold onto card combos until I have an opportunity to play them effectively, basically. (A think I'll probably not have to worry about so much once I'm more used to the game)

Data Ravens, Viktor 2.0: In the games I've played, I think I've seen one trace end with someone actually getting tagged. So I don't rate Viktor 2.0 so highly right now (since it needs to complete a trace to start doing any damage) and I was interested in throwing in some Data Ravens just to play with tagging, basically. Closed Accounts/Scorched Earth were in for consideration, but they just didn't make the final cut.

There's definitely some changes to make to the Ice, and I could probably lose some of my bonus clicks and the Research Stations to free up space in the deck. But I'll try this stuff out and reiterate.

Ah, yeah, thaaat makes sense! Welcome to the game!

Research Stations: I think, as you note, as you get better, you'll be more able to play through combos, or play the pieces separately as needed. (Though Cerebral Imaging is a pretty remarkable ID for a Combo-focused build.)

Data Ravens:

Viktor: 1.0's abilities are better, by and large (although holding onto a brain damage for later can let you snipe in a way players sometimes aren't expecting). The trick is that you can bypass each subroutine with only one click, and MORE importantly, that Yog 1.0 (which is very common in good runner decks) goes through for free. Viktor 2.0 is therefore more useful as End-The-Run Ice with the POTENTIAL for brain damage than 1.0 is as a dealer of both, because 2.0 isn't broken so easily by Yog.

Data Ravens: The thing about tags is that they're not very useful by themselves. Blowing up resources is nice, so they can be a bit of an economy drain, but many runners have methods of dealing with tags fairly effectively -- including not running with resources in the first place! That's why Closed Accounts and Scorched Earth are so useful if you want to tag people -- they punish runners for leaving tags carelessly, and take advantage of tags you force upon the runner, too!

By all means, play and see what you like, and iterate over and over! I hope some of this is vaguely useful to you, and I look forward to seeing where you take this!
