Project: Brick House (with fun description!!)

Weyland Consortium

Annual Board Meeting Executive Summary

Appendix D: Transcripts

Agenda Item #17 - Project: Brick House

"Mr. Weyland, ladies and gentlemen of the board, we have a problem. Our old Glacier-style way of doing things needs an overhaul. Runners, particularly Anarchs and Criminals, have found new ways to infiltrate our servers. Stealth credits and Switchblade, Eater and Keyhole, Blackmail and Bad publicity, Bounced ice, the list goes on and on. However, my team and I have created a three-point plan to protect and advance our mostly three-point agendas and our ultimate goal of Government Takeover. We call it, Project: Brick House.

"The first step to building a better world is to lay a firm financial foundation. Project: Brick House is full of Transaction Operations. The standard Beanstalk Royalties, Hedge Fund, and Restructure are good starts. A few of us have Blue Level Clearance to help pull things out of R&D, and we're planning to have several Medical Research Fundraisers to help public image and rake in the same amount of credits as our Restructures. Sure, netrunners will benefit from a few credits, but I'll explain later why we don't care."

"Secondly, big plans means big agendas. We either start advancing them the ol' fashion way OR trace stolen agendas to very personally remind runners that "corporations are people too" with Punitive Counterstrike. Our "meaty" agendas, The Cleaners for example, help to ensure the "conversation" is a definitive one. A surprise MRF will provide a 6 boost, making it a highly effective way to fund a double Punitive Counterstrike. I don't need to remind you all of the importance of Government Takeover here, now do I? Given the agenda values, we need to aggressively protect them.

"The third point is to have a paradigm shift here at Weyland Consortium. Our best defense is actually our offense, COUNTER-offense to be precise. Yes, we'll still build one big remote and stack our centrals over time; however, we need to first and foremost dedicate ourselves to trashing the programs the runner needs to get in and trashing the hardware they need to feel safe. To do this, I'm calling on a full battery of Rototurret and a couple of Taurus to help trash programs and fry the runner's Plascretes and Silencers. Changeling will help fill in the sentry gaps as needed. I'm also ready to authorize as many Power Shutdowns as possible to keep the runner out. I've even poached Jackson Howard from NBN specifically to review our archives for repeat shutdowns and/or to refresh our HQ."

"And If that STILL isn't enough program/hardware destruction, we'll bring out the big guns and force the runner into a Wormhole or an Orion. Now, and this part is important, we DO NOT advance the Orion. We'll have enough money to hard rez that beast right in their faces. If unprepared, that can spell game over for the runner."

"Like any project, there are risks. But these are risks we have to take. Before closing, I'd like to mention a few helpful strategies:

(1) PROTECT all central servers with EtR ice asap. Do not hold onto ice if a central is unprotected. We WILL have the credits to rez whatever we want. If that means putting Orion on Archives, then go for it. Runners won't see it coming.

(2) RESIST as much as possible the urge to play Medical Research Fundraiser in the early game unless its to win. MRF is meant to fund double Punitives, get back up to 10 for Restructure, and to bounce back from big rezzes.

(3) COUNTERATTACK as soon and as much as possible. Power Shutdown early and often, even if it's just to clear Faerie. Do not let the runner maintain a decoder and a killer at the same time. Jackson Howard should do his best to bring PS back into R&D.

(4) SENTRIES must land. The first Rototurret rez is extremely important. And so is keeping at least one rezzed RT on the board, because it empowers Wormhole.

"Mr. Weyland, Ladies and Gentlemen of the board, in closing, this project is all about moving forward while moving upward. For us, the ends always justify the means. And in the end, we're not just Building a Better World; we're building a better life...a better home...one brick at a time."

This is a lovely deck, and I absolutely love your description. We understand influence is tight, but if you want to trash programs, our recent endeavors with the HB corporation have show Sagittarius to be truly effective, especially with coffers as deep as Weyland's. Kudos again, and keep up the devious work.

Dear muldr,

Thank you for the comment! I've heard good things about Sagittarius and will have to take it into consideration. Since we'd prefer to rez it for 8 anyways (5 to rez + 3 to trace), there's a real opportunity to substitute Tollbooth for one. Good stuff.

Sincerely,

Memo from Sanitation,

Fully endorse the synergies of your plan. If we might contribute, we have found that our new Housekeeping initiative to be very effective and believe it might be perfect for your new project.

Dear sruman,

Things have been getting pretty messy lately, and growth numbers from Sanitation looks promising. I might be able to transfer someone from the Power Shutdown team to facilitate our efforts in "waste disposal."
