She Sells Seashells v. 4

Miller4h9 13

So, this was the first deck I built that acually functions on some level! As you can see, this is v. 4. After a VERY helpful player on Jinteki.net gave me some advice on how to make the deck better, I made his changes to make v. 2. Then I disregarded some of his changes and made v. 3. Then, after playing a while, I took to heart some of the deck's strengths and weaknesses to make v. 4. So here we go.

This is standard Jinteki Shell Game (from what I understand). Is it a trap? Is it an agenda? Want to take a guess? You might die. Or at least it will hurt.

How do you play? Simple! Get some ice on your central servers (maybe some nice Vanillas, or at minimum some annoying Pups or Yaguras. You don't really want your opponent going in there THAT much. Well, maybe sometimes...). You might need to ice some of your remote servers, but leave that for your Sentries to MAXIMIZE DEATH!!!! or at least the fabled thousand cuts. But you see, who needs ICE when you can just put a card on the table, look the runner in the eye (option not available on Jinteki.net), and say, "Are you sure that's an agenda?" And maybe it will be, and they'll score some points and take some death. Or maybe it's a Fetal AI, and they'll take some points and LOTS of death. Or maybe it's a Cerebral Overwriter. Why hello.

You have 2 types of agendas you'll need to score. 3/1 (or Philo) and 5/3. For 3/1s, you have 3 choices: 1. Mushin it out and do the aforementioned eye-looking 2. Put out the agena and a Snare in 2 different remote servers (or for bonus giggles, 2 agendas). Are you feeling lucky, punk? 3. Install, Trick of light from a trap, advance, score, laugh. For 5/3s, you might use a Mushin (just to speed things up and save you some valuable credits), or you might just IAA and hope they think it's a trap.

Significant choices: Fetal AI, House of Knives, Philo, Cerebral Overwriter, Snare, Mushin No Shin, Trick of Light: This is a PE deck.

GFI: Wait, no Future Perfect? Well, no. Psi games cost money, and this deck likes to keep things cheap. Also, Future Perfect is worth 3 points. GFI is only worth 2 for the opponent. My opponent has to steal at least 4 agendas to win the game, and the more agendas I make him steal, the more risks I make him take and the better chance I can Philo kill him.

Project Junebug?? NO RONIN???????: Honetsly, this might be a bad call. But I just don't like using Ronin. Why waste time and money setting up a Ronin when I could always just score an agenda? To me, there are two types of cards: the advanced cards I don't want my opponent running, and the advanced cards I DO want my opponent running. I'd like to keep those as even as possible. I already have to have 10 agendas; I could either run Junebug and go 10/5, or I could go Ronin and make it 12/3. Plus, Junebug, can potentially be a kill card. And besides, my opponent probably thinks I have Ronin, right? Right?????

Celebrity Gift: Yeah, show my opponent a couple of Snares in my hand, and they'll be afraid to go anywhere near HQ. In fact, even after you ditch the Snares, the fear may still remain.

Chrysalis: Free to fire 2 net damage trap that fires from R&D? Yes please! (Of course, it can be blocked with icebreakers, but that part doesn't matter.)

Cobra...?: It's between that and Cortex Lock. I'm still choosing. It could very well end up being Cortex Lock. Maybe. Idk.

Strengths: Of the 49 cards, 27 let me hurt the opponent. If the opponent plays careful, he won't get flatlined. However, there's also a good chance that I can win if he's being too overcautious.

The economy in this deck is actually pretty solid. Everything you're playing is really cheap. Like, really cheap. And Mushin/Trick of Light help you avoid spending money on advancing agendas. And you have enough burst economy to keep you fueled. I'm often in double digits for credits with this deck.

Weaknesses: Film Critic :(

There's something about Jinteki ice being "porous." This deck is relying on bluffs to keep the opponent off my back, not ICE. The ice that I have is very susceptible to Mimc and/or Parasite. When you do actually need to protect a server... well...

Bluffs: Bluffing can turn this into a guessing game. If your opponent guesses wrong at the wrong time, they'll die. If your opponent guesses right, they can waltz right through everything. Aww.........

Well, that's my She Sells Seashells! It's fun to play, even if it may not be the best deck ever. Very interactive, very tense, very enjoyable.

Let me know your thoughts!

Have you considered going -2 Pup for +1 Chrysalis and +1 Yagura? I feel like this deck is pretty ambivalent to Pup's credit tax effect, whereas the assured net damage of Yagura (+a free Deck scry!) and Chrysalis (+trap density in Centrals!) are more synergistic.

Great start, but after playing quite a lot of PE I've personally found it to work best in a condition where you shower the runner with credits. If your shell game's good, ice becomes rather unnecessary. Giving the runner additional information via Celebrity Gift is usually less advantageous than running Medical Research Fundraiser alongside Profiteering. Also Ronin's great since it can be used alongside Trick of Light for an accessible 3 net damage turn, something otherwise unavailable.

Essentially, try this deck. netrunnerdb.com

It might suit you.

I would consider Profiteering, but I'd play it over House of Knives. Between Junebug and Overwriter, and the lack of Neural EMP/Scorch, when runners die, they die hard.

And you know what I would do that's super sneaky? Consider "Freedom Through Equality" and Aggressive Negotiation. Yes, Aggressive Negotiation. Thanks to Mushin and ToL, you can easily score with a click left over. Use that to find the card you need.

@umbralAeronaut You know, I can't think of any reason to not do that.

@DonCheadle But... but... I don't like Ronin... Again, I fully understand that it's a great card, but for my tastes I'd rather use deck slots elsewhere. Anyone who looks at this deck could easily trade 2 Project Junebug for 2 Ronin. Also, while the ice is cheap and porous, I'd rather not make the Runner's job TOO easy for him. I'm not trying to block the runner with my Ice. I'm trying to kill him a little bit. That said, Medical Research Fundraiser is not entirely out of the question. Well worth considering.

@RubbishyUsername As I said, the economy in this game isn't bad. I don't think I need Profiteering. And House of Knives fits better with the feel of the deck. On the other hand, "Clones are not People" (I think that's what you were going for) is a fun idea! Especially with Mushin. I also like the idea of Aggressive Negotiation. That could do wonders to getting my Philotic Entanglement. Although at that point, why not just use Fast Track?

Thanks for the suggestions!

@Miller4h9 Fast Track reveals that you found an agenda. The runner will have no idea whether it's a Philotic Entanglement, a Mushin No Shin, or a Cerebral Overwriter.

When it comes to Profiteering, the idea is that you only need Hedge Fund and maybe a couple Medical Research Fundraiser, freeing you up at least 3 deck slots for other great cards for you, like Cerebral Cast and Voter Intimidation (which incidentally you need, because one day you are gonna be burned by a Guru Davinder).
