The SpeedBoat

Dip your toes into the great ocean of Boat option in Startup - a hopefully beginnerfriendly experience.

Preface:

During the summer, I did quite enjoy playing Ysengrins BathtOb, but to be fair I was never that good at it. So for an upcoming tournament in Würzburg, I though why not try and make a Startup Ob deck and see if we can learn anything from it.


The Idea:

The initial idea was using a Slash and Burn Agriculture to score an Azef Protocoll trashing either an Ice Wall or a Tithe to fetch a Spin Doctor - which would allow us to prevent the Slash and Burn Agriculture from beeing stolen by the runner.

  • Ob ability 1 -> 0 - check.

This was further enhance by adding the Marilyn Campaigns. They do serve two purposes: Provide credits and a recoverable card to trash over and over. Especially to fetch our 1 cost ices that we need as stated before. Except for the recover ability, the same is true for the Regolith Mining License. Try to place them behind a cheap ice to make trashing them more expensive for the runner.

  • Ob ability 2 -> 1 - check.

In order to fetch our Marilyns, I added some gear checking ice to slow the runner down Enigma and Maskirovka which in the early stages of the game often pretty much pays for itself. They are also needed for the Stavka + Hafrun combo, where we trash a 3cost fetch Hafrun and use it to prevent the killer from interacting with Stavka in order to trash some improtant breakers of the runner.

  • Ob ability 3 -> 2 - check.

At the 4 cost slot we have some tech cards.

  1. Stavka to force the runner to go slow once a 3cost card is rezzed and there are some unrezzed ice o the field.

  2. Hortum some Anti-AI tech, that is also quite taxing against Buzzsaw

  3. Anvil is an important card to use our Ob ability if we need to fetch a certain card, that we are missing. Besides that, it prevents the runner from running to often on our central server. Whinin Startup it does help especially against an early agression Endurance setup.

Tech conclued.

  • Ob ability 4 -> 3 - check.

In order to fetch our Anvil and to have an expensive early gear check we slot Envelopment. Best case, we can use it so score an early Project Atlas with a token.

  • Ob ability 5 -> 4 - check.

Other cards:

  1. Biotic Labor serves as an additional fast advance tech card to close out the game.

  2. [Svyatogor Excavator] allows us to fetch a Spin Doctor at the beginning of the turn to fast advance either a Project Atlas or an Above the Law with a Slash and Burn Agriculture. It can also be used to fetch the last 2/3credits from either Marilyn or Regolith.

  3. Predictive Planogram to keep our had filled with non-agenda cards, while we wait for certain combo pieces.

  4. Mavirus as the standard Anti-Virus tech.

Conclusion:

The games are often not as straight forward as anticipaded. The deck slots a lot of agendas, so most of the games are in my humble opinion very fun to play but also very nerve-wracking. Have fun with it, it a TOP deck ;)
