Superfuturism: The NEXT Iteration of Supermodernism

I've been dabbling with Supermodernism, and I was wondering if something similar can't be accomplished with NEXT Design: Guarding the Net. The ability to set up a potentially safe scoring server on turn 1 puts decent pressure on the runner, which I think works very well with the Supermodernism agenda.

I'd love some ideas / commentary from folks who spend more time playing/building than I do, but here are my thoughts:

Accelerated Beta Test and Project Vitruvius: These are mostly here because they are 3/2 agendas. However, while Vitruvius will probably never be over-advanced much, ABT will be of use to keep the runner out. It only stands to reason that we will have a slightly heavier ICE proportion than in a Weyland Supermodernism deck.

Jackson Howard: While Anonymous Tip works well, I think Mr Howard's ability to recover from a bad ABT draw is important. The additional target for the runner is also welcome.

Adonis Campaign and Eve Campaign: A Supermodernism needs to rely on speed, so typically asset based econ like these two would be a detriment. However, getting two out and running will give you a strong boost to your credit pool, and they don't require a click to use.

Biotic Labor: This is a perfect addition to the speed of Supermodernism. It means you can score an ABT, False Lead, or Vitruvius in one turn, pressuring the runner.

Heimdall 2.0 and Tollbooth: These are the "late game" ICE. While probably not much of a challenge to the runner, there's still some teeth that the runner needs to be wary of. I'm not 100% sure of this choice, because I anticipate sufficient economy to rez them when they are needed to be an issue.

What I don't have is enough pressure, I don't think. Supermodernism has Scorched Earth and Power Shutdown to hit back at the runner. We could swap the NAPD Contract for Project Ares, but then we'd have to over-advance the Ares, and that doesn't really mesh well with the "rush" that this deck exhibits.

Please give me some feedback, especially those who have played Supermodernism in a competitive environment. Thanks.

Ares actually works rather well, as your first agenda. I've messed around with it in NEXT, and was regularly able to get it high enough to reset the runner's board.

With only 19 ICE, I dont know if you have enough to make NEXT's ability worthwhile. Most NEXT decks I have seen/toyed with have closer to 25-29 ICE.

I would launch into an argument about how I don't think this really is Modernism, but that's just about labels for an archetype and isn't particularly constructive.

I would agree that your deck isn't worthwhile as a Next deck, but is probably fine as an EtF deck. Usually Next needs to be able to rez it's first two/three pieces of ice and really capitalize on them. You lack enough hard EtR, so it's going to be really hard to set up a scoring server that is scary. Realistically to protect three servers you 8 cards to actually keep them out at a reasonable price, so finding each of those will be incredibly critical. And while you spend time doing that, the runner could pull out their code gate and any sentry breaker, and walk all over your servers.

And one thing to keep in mind is that Biotic labor will be costing 7 to score an agenda, so big ice doesn't look too hot unless you're regularly generating 28 credits beyond whatever you use to rez ice.

That said I like this line of thinking and I've been trying something which looks very different but has the same core idea.

@Thike: I will switch to Ares then. That also eliminates the issue of bad publicity from Fenris slowing down the NAPD Contract.

@IceFalcon14 and @YsengrinSC:Even if I get two pieces of ICE out, I think I've made good use of the ability. I know it's not optimal to have less than 25 ICE, but I've found all of my previous dabbling with Next to be frustration at a lack of utility cards and economy.

I see that my choices of ICE are not particularly inspired. I think NEXT Silver would be a better choice than Eli 1.0, and two Ice Walls might be a good sub for one of those Tollboothes. Taking a leaf from Modern Androids, maybe I should add a Chum or two as well. I know you used Inazuma, @YsengrinSC, but I'm most likely to remove the other Tollbooth to make room and thus leaving me with only two influence. I'll probably also cut both Heimdall 2.0s in that case, but then I have no larger ICE for the mid game.

(I'm surprised you looked at my deck, I had forgot that it was published.)

I don't know that my advice as has to be set in stone. I made my deck's midgame to be having all 2-deep servers and using Haas Archeology AI to set up win win scenarios where they either trash it and can't get in, or I get to use it as a cheap Biotic labor. Otherwise my deck doesn't have mid/late game ice, which is just a different direction to take. Next Silver will be a great boost, and probably replace ice walls, freeing up influence for more interesting things. And I'm not sure that Eli is terrible, because over a central it's still very strong.

I did set my deck up to have a hard time against a strong AI breaker (which makes me want to run a second Swordsman) or someone who can get a full rig out very very quickly. But I'm more used to seeing people digging to fill out their suite or using criminal tricks, which the assets do a nice job of dulling.

In regards to economy, that's something I'm still figuring out. I obviously used a lot of asset econ, and really liked what Private Contracts did to create pressure, and bad scenarios for the runner.

@YsengrinSC: I checked when you said you had been thinking along similar lines. I'm not a fan of the Haas Arcology AI for this deck simply because I don't see getting it out soon enough to maintain momentum. I hadn't considered needing more cheaper ICE with NEXT, but I think that will be good, to be able to utilize the ICE and not be slowed down too much.

I don't dislike Eli 1.0, but I chose to drop him so I have more hard ETR ICE. Also, I'm re-configuring the ICE to be a bit cheaper, and Ice Wall is cheaper than Eli. I'm not sure what I'd use the influence for, maybe an RSVP or a Snare! or Shock!.

As for economy, I don't see 7 credits at the start of a turn to be out of the realm of reason. Adonis Campaign and Eve Campaign will hopefully keep my coffers filled. In my local meta, there's a lot of hate for asset economy, but I'm hoping that speed and pressure will make the runner make some mistakes.

Ultimately I think an ICE re-configuration is definitely needed, and the rest will come down to hard learned lessons in playtest.
