Never Gonna Advance You Ob

harmonbee 815

Mainly publishing these for ABR purposes - this is the Corp that I took to the Warwick Circuit Opener and UK Nationals. I think this went 3-1 at Warwick and 4-3 at Nats, so was easily the better of my two decks. Unfortunately my Runner was notably worse, so my overall record in both tournaments wasn't great. (Hey you should check out my UK Nats startup decks though, they did very well!)

never gonna advance you ob

The general idea of this deck is never advance - you have a lot of agendas that can be scored with never advance, and a lot of cards that look like agendas that can be scored with never advance. You run most of the usual Ob combos - stuff like Special Offer into Rashida Jaheem, Envelopment into Border Control, Border Control into a 3-cost ice (of which we have a few targets) and Extract into most cards.

The spice of this deck is that it focuses on Ganked! rather than Manegarm Skunkworks. The idea was that forcing an ice like Archer or Ansel 1.0 to be broken twice by Endurance or an Anarch heap breaker would be enough to get it to fire, or to at least open up a large enough scoring window. We also have a Thimblerig to swap things around as need be - for example, moving an Archer off the remote when it is currently empty to protect a central that really needs it, or to make an ice no longer the outermost for avoiding Hippo, or of course to line up an ice with a Ganked!.

Here's my list of thoughts that I have about the deck, for anyone wanting to take it for a spin.

  • The agenda suite is good, and I really enjoy the Standoff as a bonus way to get the Archer rezzed. 1 SDS Drone Deployment feels like the correct number.
  • I also think the general idea of the deck (Ganked! into mean ice) is good, but wonder if all the new cards being spoiled for Parhelion means that you can probably just do better with some of those instead of Ganked!.
  • The Enigma was there as a different 3-cost ice to tutor for. It may just be better as the third Afshar, or some other ice - it annoys Unity a bit and the facecheck is nice but I'm not sure that's currently worth it.
  • I don't think the Malapert Data Vault really did much, given that our ID is enough of a tutor. This could be a slot for a new Parhelion card.
  • The 419: Amoral Scammer matchup at UK Nats was tough. I think the strategy in that matchup is to get an Archer on the remote and then score out as fast as you can, but Aumakua was very good at challenging my centrals so I lost every game I faced against 419. I think finding space for Mavirus and restructuring the deck a little more around that would be smart - Sandstone would also look a little better in that variant.
  • JackMade's Ob, which did better than mine, comments that Special Offer is not ideal because the Runner has control over when it fires, so Launch Campaign is probably better. I think I agree. (We also managed to slot Thimblerig independently, so I'm glad that a better player than I am thinks it's a good shout!)
  • I wish I had the second Audacity.

In short, this deck is fun but could probably be improved. Try it out if you like!
