Deep Dive Sable 22.07 [StartUp Berlin Aug-2022 2nd]

Background and deckbuilding

The truth is that this deck started as just put three Deep Dives and everything related to Nyusha and new Midnight Sun criminal cards in one deck. Then it evolved to:

  • Use Pennyshaver instead of Virtuoso to improve economy. This deck depends on lots of runs, so take something from them, and rely on Deep Dive and Docklands Pass for multi-access. Tried Swift too, but I think you take more benefit from Pennyshaver, and Nyusha alone can give you the additional magic click for Deep Dive.
  • PAN-Weave might work, but the only time I ended up using it in my test games, the meat damage happened to trash the very card I wanted to use next. I removed it, and added Prepaid VoicePADs, that pay themselves with the number of events in the deck.
  • Tried to go with the full set of Deep Dives, but this leaves you without influence for better fracters. I suffered this in some long games and decided to put a couple of Corroders instead. Three deep dives may be also too much, you may end up in a situation where you cannot run the three servers and two or three unusable cards at hand.
  • Drawing may be a problem on this deck, I tried the full set of Earthrise Hotels before, but I found that as the game advances, spending these four credits and a click was a bit too much, while an early DreamNet and the frequent runs pay by themselves.

How this works

This deck relies a lot on events to do efficient runs. If the initial draws are good, you can gain a good advantage that will allow you to take it easier the runs while the game advances. In the tournament an initial turn with the mark in archives, and a grip with Carpe Diem, two Inside Jobs and Deep Dive gave me 5 agenda points. It dragged me quite a lot during the next turns, but I only had to wait for the good opportunity to run for the last agenda.

Once the game advances, you rely more on the icebreakers, and except for central servers and with the help of Cezve, your rig is not always going to be very efficient for the task. The deck is also limited on memory units, so you may not be able to install everything and may need to choose what icebreakers to install, or if you don't want the third precious Cezve.

Summary

Carpe Diem. Take good advantage of the initial turns when easier access to centrals and the extra tempo of a free click really shine.
