Vorlds Verformance

This is now my best performance in a large scale Netrunner tournament (take that bubbling 2016 gencon!). Oddly enough, it was my least practiced event because life has been life. To be honest, the only way I was going to pull this off was playing an OP deck and doing my best Dan D impression. I always do the latter, but the former helped me across the finish line.

Leading up to this event, the Wednesday before, I was going to play this gem of a deck. I was inspired by this version and watching my favorite game ever, along with my regularly scheduled programming of viewing the goats: Timmy Wong, Dan D, and Spags. The only reason that I didn't play it was due to the amount of AgInf that I thought would be present. That was the correct choice and as soon as NSG is brave enough to ban BacPro and/or rotation does its thing, this will be the operating model going forward.

Cut the Snuff

  • I felt most aligned to Rotom's bravest Lat when perusing the latest and greatest. However, I needed to satiate an irresponsible need for more Bravado. Have you read that card?!?!?!? I wanted as much cool econ as possible, along with getting a cash mail-in rebate for the runs that are ended by AgInf. This delivers on both fronts.
  • You are faster than fast advance. Clot is bad, takes influence, and pushes up against the Cuppelation type-of-slot. If you are suspecting fast advance, you draw as much as possible, mull for wheels and/or SMC, and then get the party started.
  • Revolver vs Ika - I still don't know on this one. If Revolver was 2 influence, it would be no question to go that route, but 3 is a bit too big for me. Ika is at least "good" and functions in a similar format, so I split the dif per usual.
  • Paracia is cool, but I'm typically of the mind of playing "real" econ rather than bitcoins for trashing. The extra telework was critical imo and I wouldn't revert that slot, but you do you.
  • DJ is a fine choice, but feels like a bit of a win more card. I think you can / should keep it, unless you are a crim degen like myself.
  • Swift is super tight and I wish I had that. I'd have to hit into the bravado info, which is fine. You also need a bit more draw if that's the case, so I'd probably go full aggro and go for a joy ride or two.

Putting on a goddamn show

  • If you play Lat, you have the baddest deck in town. ACT LIKE IT!
  • Use winhole for critical trashes. These typically rhyme with Charlotte, Tranq Grid, Void (sometimes), and Manegarm. People do not switch up their install order enough, so you should inspect the bottom-most card, until people read this and the cat is out of the bag once again.
  • Everyone is appropriately scared about trick shot, so pressure HQ as much as humanly possible. You get to steal, trash, and gain information (the most OP detail).
  • I draw aggressively and do not have more click magic than Wheels, so I intend on deep diving twice for a single steal. Try to do this once early and then once more to end the game.
  • If you are not going against kill, use those stoneships at the start of turn or when you are digging for Deep Dive.
  • Dear god Echelon is terrible, so sometimes you have to use your face. Get up in there.

Highlights

  • Nabbing 2nd at CoS. Damn that felt good.
  • Playing alongside and against my ANR hero - Timmy Wong. It was an honor to get kicked out of the cut by you. I'd do it all over again and I'm certain you'll make that happen.
  • Playing against Jai. I haven't seen an aura like that from a netrunner player in a long, long time. When he hit the table, he instantly transformed into a superhero and that was truly wild to see. He gave me my first loss in the tournament and there is no surprise as to why. I did get to 6 points though, which I knew he enjoyed and it was a really sick game.
  • After just about every round, I went back to watching The King. Grandpa is on watch at all times!
  • Seeing Aruzan win - we've had a lot of tournament overlap this year and he is a true one. His deckbuilding is inspired, playstyle is ruthless, and repped that champion energy this year. Keep it up homie.

I love you all very much.
