Wayang kulit for Mac (v1)

linduxed 15

Out of all the runner IDs that I've played with, I think that to this day, Nasir is the runner I've played and enjoyed the most. Every game was a puzzle, and the challenge of just making Nasir barely function was something that was always exciting. All this to say that Shaper weirdness is definitely my cup of tea.

When I first saw Dewi I did hesitate for a moment: "Do I want to play Netrunner, or do I say goodbye to that in favor of dedicating all Netrunner time to Shaper esotericism?"

Of course, I had to choose Shaper Bullshit.

This deck is the first Dewi deck I've thrown together that has not felt awful. Considering how few games I've tested it (<10), I'm sure I'll be changing it again soon, but it's better than all of the random piles that came before it.

Before I say anything further: LazerSeaHorse has been of great help, both bouncing ideas, and him pumping out a stead stream of Dewi decks.

Gameplan

The deck does three things:

  1. Install things all the time.
  2. Run almost every turn.
  3. Pressure with Conduit

Neither are an exaggeration, and that informs the card choices.

Cards

  • Slap Vandal both fills up the memory and lets one threaten servers right away. This is important: Dewi needs the runs, and needs the corp pressured. Don't let them get set up!
  • Azimat should basically be played every game. Assets are everywhere, and even in the games where they're fewer, one needs to get up to max memory.
  • Environmental testing, Coalescence, and Rejig are your main burst economy cards.
  • In the groove is way better than Ritual in this deck. Especially with Muse, Coalescence, and Rejig, one will not only be drawing more than 3 cards most of the time, the option to take credits also helps a lot.
  • The Artist is normally a card that's very hard to justify, due to its high install cost. However, the thing that makes it (at least seemingly) function well in this deck, is the fact that while other decks might be firing the top (2 credit) ability consistently and the lower (install) ability only occasionally, this deck basically has no turns where it couldn't be firing both abilities. The need for installing is constant.
  • Pichação. This is definitely the thing that makes the ID flip the most times. There will be flips prior to this hitting the table, but Pichação is central to getting good amount of flips going.
  • Knickknack, or rather, why is he not here? In most builds it seemed like he was helping with economy and trashing to adjust memory levels, but I've actually found that the memory handling can be done without him, and sometimes his timing of the trash (with subsequent memory adjustment) can actually hurt the ID flipping (trashing a Coalescence, when the ID needs it to stay).
  • Tranquilizer is there mostly for the cases where the corp has rezzed something expensive, to pull back their board state up somewhat. Watching the corp get ahead and not being able to do anything about it is hard, so this aims to help with that. I'm not entirely sure about this card, further testing required.
  • Conduit is there because I needed some R&D threat. Cataloguer works, but is not as threatening, especially without Devadatta Drone. Deep Dive may be possible, but I haven't teched for that route.
  • Cupellation is there because sooner or later the agendas will pile up in HQ, and this will grab at least 2 points if well timed.

The console slot

Madani is super useful for Dewi, no doubt. By now, I think everyone listening to the various content creators has heard the many strong things this console can do (install on both turns, how that interacts with DZMZ, mid-run installs, etc.). It also does not bump up the memory, and it can (with a mid-run install) fix the memory count for making a flip happen.

It may be that I should actually be running Madani, especially since that would save me influence as well. However, Pennyshaver has proven to be a good source of economy, which is very important for keeping the pressure up. Since the intention is to run multiple times each turn, Pennyshaver will always be ticking up.

Hermes was tried. Hermes is always strong, but Pennyshaver has simply smoothed out the rough edges of the deck (which there are many of) better. Difficult to pick between the two, but so far Pennyshaver it is, for me.

Lilypad was actually very nice... in a build which almost never flipped the ID, which at the time made me wonder why I wasn't playing the same build out of Magdalene. Drawing cards is nice, but those extra 2 memory are very difficult to fill up, in most stages of the game.

Card that didn't fit in this build

  • Illumination: Crazy together with In the groove, lots of tempo if it lands. Was hard to land in previous builds, probably could land well in this build, but was cut recently. Probably could go back in, but kind of wants at least 2 copies, which is difficult to fit.
  • Ashen: Good reset, but expensive, and probably the game should have ended by this time.
  • Burner: Very useful to solve various problems, but didn't know how to fit it.
  • Basilar: Extra click is super good for the extra runs, but Measured Response is real, and I found the hit of 2 cards to be hard when playing earlier versions. Maybe this version could actually stomach slotting 2 of these (1 feels too little, to me, 3 seems too much).

Yo this looks siiick!! I can’t wait to run this myself :)

absolutely shocked at the pennyshaver choice!!! But now that I think it over, it’s a more flexible side hustle. And “in this economy!” Dewi could definitely do damage with pennyshaver!!

What also seems to be a card that’s probably cut for influence other Dewi brews run is Fermenter, what’s your take on that?

Thanks!

Regarding Fermenter, I must admit I have yet to try it! In every build there was either a shortage of influence for them, or I was worried about purges having too big an influence on my economy, combined with hitting the Conduit. I’m sure they can work, but I can’t say from my own testing.
