Pre-rotation decklist |
The idea for this came directly from a couple of games I played against two Kim decks recently. I will add their usernames when I find out what they are. Some setup is required, but the server sniping ability is extremely powerful.
First things first, why Whizzard? Reason Zero is because I don't like to shamelessly copy decks, even though I am a very slow deck builder. So I want to make some changes and add my own ideas to the base idea. Now Kim is a great identity. He can trash operations for free and he has the almighty base 1! This makes early random accesses amazing and even later accesses can screw with the corporation heavily. So why play as another identity? Because I feel that assets are making a strong comeback. SanSan, Ash, and Jackson are still powerhouses that you hate to see and be unable to afford to trash. More assets are showing up, mostly in Gagarian and NEH, but other identities would be remiss to not run them. With the resurgence of PAD, Marked, and other economy assets with mid-high trash costs, You need to be able to deal with them cheaply. Now an Imp or a Scrubber is a cheap way to deal with these high trash costs. But Imp would be better used on ice and operations, while Scrubber takes a card slot and can be trashed. The Whizzard has this covered. With judicious use of his ability you only have to worry about having the money to survive, get into a server, and to play your cards. Not that that is always easy, but that is what we have a deck for. The final reason that impacts the design is how I pilot the deck. Kim is better for more random accesses, seeing cards early and often. I have more of a Shaper playstyle. This may have something to do with me playing a Mopus Kate build for the last several months before this.
Resources:
The Supplier is a slow but great resource. With regards to resources and hardware, he is equivalent to two Mopus clicks! He makes Liberated The only drawbacks (besides speed) are an early Smash&Grab and the fact that it is one card per turn with no way to empty it. Also the fact that Daily Casts do not activate the turn they are installed.
Earthrise Hotel- stay in a much nicer place then the Wyldside! Not only is it more efficient, clicks and credit; but you don't have to fight your way out! Seriously though, six cards for a and 4 (-2 hopefully) s is very efficient.
Utopia Shard is pretty self explanatory. If they search for something or start digging for card, use this and you can ruin their dastardly schemes.
I feel that Kati Jones, Daily Casts, and Liberated do not need any real explanation. Especially with the Supplier discount. They are still good without him, so do not be afraid to use them for base value if you need the economy.
Programs:
Corroder- Never leave home without one! Breaks wraparound so you can save D4v1d counters and has a base strength to help with all those annoying weyland barriers and bioroid ice. Also, you can break them for money instead of counters, which can mean a lot depending on how the game goes. This has saved me a pile of money when running against the Blue Sun six agenda decks especially.
Mimic- With the launch of o&C, Swordsman has a home again. Not everyone will be running it, but those who aren't are probably running Architect. And who wants to pay more than 2 for Architect? Also, it does great work against RP.
D4v1d- This is a wonderful program. Shame it is four influence, but we are in faction! Breaks everything from Tollbooth and Inazuma, to Archer and Curtain Wall. Why only two? Deckspace, Uninstall, and they are more for surgical strikes than constant pressure.
Parasite- Kills ice. Dead! But in all seriousness, this card solves so many problems. There are only four types of ice it will not grind through. Lotus field, Architect, and anything out of Blue Sun. Heck, I have thrown them on pups because that was what the server I needed to run was made of. It is less good without Datasucker, but it is still worth the slot.
Overmind- Also known as, why this deck functions. It can break anything except swordsman. Early game, 4 counters might be all you can shoot for. A late game Overmind should have between 9 and 13 counters when installed. It isn't the most efficient breaker, but that is the trade off for threatening every server with one program. As far a cost efficiency, it is only slightly more efficient than Crypsis. The main gain is the time not spent and the fact that it uses power counters instead of virus counters. This means Cyberdex Suite cannot stop you mid run. You can either install over it or use Uninstall to refresh the counters. Do not be afraid to install it for 3 counters if you think you can capitalize on the play.
Hardware:
e3 Feedback Implants- this is the piece of hardware that makes the deck run efficiently. Due to wording, you can break all 1.0 bioroids with a and 1. D4v1d and Overmind go far when you only use one power counter per ice. If the influence wasn't needed elsewhere, I would put three in just to make sure I got it early.
MemStrips- I love the flavor of this card. It is also the best memory boost possible for Overmind. Three memory on a 1-1 basis by cost is very efficient, especially if you can get the supplier discount. Two is all you need for a very solid number of counters. It can also fuel parasite memory if your rig is setup.
R&D Interface- R&D multi access is the only way to pressure that server unless they do not ice it for some reason. Even then, the only time you might not want this is against Black Tree Jinteki.
Vigil- from what I can tell, not very many people like vigil. They see it as part of the bad publicity gimmick suite. Most people I have spoken with think I would be better off running Spinal Modem. The point is easy to see, two more s for 2s and the same memory. While this is good, the drawback says that Ash will most likely give you a brian damblage. Unless your draw is bad, credits flow pretty decently. We will not run as often as other decks, at least on servers with ice, so Spinal has less benefit. Because of Overmind, you may think, "Why not Deep Red? Because you can't use its secondary benefit and you can't have a full rig of corroder, mimic, overmind, and 2x d4v1d.
Events:
Hostage- this is the third Supplier and/or Kati Jones. Two things for 2 influence instead of just one. This is not enough to not run two Suppliers though.
Sure Gamble- still good. Moving on.
Steelskin- This is draw and protection at once. This does not replace Plascrete Carapace, although it does help you make runs against Nearpad and Jinteki. There have been many times where I have taken net damage to draw cards when I didn't care what was in my hand. Be careful with this, as you can run out of cards when you normally wouldn't. When you don't think you need it, this lets you dig for more of what you need.
Uninstall- don't trash that D4v1d! Play a new one instead of searching for another. Gain another counter on Overmind by bringing back the mimic. Or just be paranoid and protect your corroder from an unfortunate power shutdown! In all seriousness though, this gives you more more overminds and d4v1ds, which are your main breakers.
Déjà Vu- you may wonder why a single copy? I could go on about all the little recursion tricks are available. In reality though, I simply couldn't justify not having at least one recursion card in faction.
Wanton Destruction- I love this card. The art is wonderful and the effect is powerful. If this was one influence less I would run it out of faction. Yes it takes an entire turn, yes you don't see any of the cards, but that doesn't matter. Most corps will hold onto cards. If they go a long time without installing anything, or playing a card a turn, you can bet they are holding on to something they want. This could be a pile of agendas, a kill combo, or fast advance tools. The best times to hit with this are after a Celebrity Gift, when you know what their hand is (if they have agendas or things you don't want to deal with) and against a Weyland deck when you think they have been building up to kill you. Just remember to check for and get rid of any installed Jacksons before using this card. However, if they have just overdrawn with jackson, don't bother with it. A good Wanton can be two or more turns in the making, but it normally does a great deal of damage. Most corps I have found respond by drawing up their next turn. A couple of points to make. One, with Utopia Shard you can discard their entire hand. Two, if they are playing around Vigil you will hit all but one card. Although if they are playing around Vigil, they probably don't have spare plays to make and are hoarding something.
If you have made it this far, thank you for slogging through the write-up of my thoughts and reasoning for this deck.
So far I have out monied several Blue Sun decks with Kati, and beaten several RP, and ETF Fa decks. I have lost most of my games against Black Tree, but they are usually close. I tend to run out of cards because I play so many of them.
I may make some minor changes to try and increase setup speed from a bad start, but I will probably take some version of this to at least my first Store Championship.
