Deck valid after Fourth Rotation |
This is the runner I took to a top-3 finish in a recent 14 player Startup tournament. The runner deck did not drop a game against Weyland Consortium: Built to Last, Haas-Bioroid: Precision Design, MirrorMorph: Endless Iteration, and GameNET: Where Dreams are Real. I got lucky, both with my match ups (this deck struggles against asset spam) and in the games (against PD the corp was agenda flooded after a mulligan and the game only lasted a few rounds).
The idea behind the deck is essentially that I wanted a Shaper that felt more like a Criminal to play. My traditional Lat decks had lots of cards that I would consider support cards (Simulchip, DZMZ Optimizer, Self-modifying Code, for example), but I was having more fun playing Criminal decks that just ran a lot without relying on a lot of infrastructure. "So why not just play Criminal," I hear you ask. Because Deep Dive and Rezeki, mostly! And I do like Lat's passive draw ability. Together with Aniccam and a deck full of events, there's usually more than enough draw.
The choice to not have lots of memory or recursion necessitated other choices, like The Maker's Eye and Jailbreak instead of Khusyuk, and splashing Boomerang to contest early scores. The deck feels like it has a ton of multi-access, and I've heard accessing cards is how you win games.
SOME NOTES:
46 cards because I'm a terrible deck editor.
Ice Carver is here because I hate paying full price to break ice, especially if I'm relying on a back-up breaker like Echelon or Gauss. There's almost definitely a better use for the influence (like Light the Fire!).
I experimented with Inside Job instead of Boomerang to synergize with the Prepaid VoicePADs and Aniccam, but the built-in recursion of Boomerang, and the fact that you can use a Boomerang on a Jailbreak or Maker's Eye run, is a point in its favor.
3 Prepaid VoicePAD might be too many, as I only ever install 2.
