Cowboy Kate

Because it draws! It's...a Texas joke. I'm from Texas. Cowboys.

I'm definitely inspired by the breaker suite in Calimsha Kate, credit where credit is due. I'll avoid talking about the benefits of this suite since you can find that information elsewhere on the site. Anyway.

The Synergy

Point One: There are several styles of card draw to choose from. Just off the top of my head, you have Professional Contacts, Wyldside+Adjusted Chronotype, Symmetrical Visage, and Being MaxX.

Though ProCon can foster a drip economy, it has a heavy starting cost and is too slow for my taste. Plus, it penalizes you for using other forms of card draw.

The Wyldside combo requires you lose a every turn until you find your combo piece, and playing both at once will set you back 6.

Baby is okay, but it still feels like a small benefit card. Even if you add Gene Conditioning Shoppe, it probably means you have to build an entire Genetics deck.

MaxX is...MaxX. She plays a completely different style than Kate, so I'm not sure I can make a fair comparison here.

Point Two: At first glance, Comet and Prepaid VoicePAD look like a match made in hell. Wouldn't you space out your events to maxmize your gains?

As it turns out, that couldn't be farther from the truth. All you have to do is add a bunch of 0 Events that wouldn't use your PPvPs anyway!

--

Put the two together and you get this. This opens up some awkward (and threatening) plays you'd normally be incapable of doing, such as:

  • Dieseling into an Event you don't have yet and playing it.
  • Drawing 6-8 cards in a single turn, Lucky Find, Run.
  • Playing a Lucky Find on your third for 9 while still being able to run via cards like Legwork!
  • Recovering from a third Dirty Laundry against a Snare! by immediately drawing several cards and clearing your tag.
  • Same Old Indexing straight into a Maker's Eye.

By this point, you basically have Rachel Beckman on your side without any tagging worries.

My favorite thing about this combo is how, even if the deck is messing with you and you're not finding Comet for some reason, you're still probably playing PPvP Kate. And if you can't find the PPvPs, you're still probably Comet Kate. Both of these playstyles are quite strong on their own!

Why 47?

Because I have like 28 card draw, even more if I want to sacrifice a Same Old Thing. Ignoring those, that gives me effectively 39 other cards to play with, nearly on par with Chaos Theory!

To be completely honest, I'm considering adding even more cards. Swapping out single Events like Escher or Social Engineering sounds like a great meta-buster if people are familiar with your deck, and the card draw more than makes up for the tiny consistency hit.

And yeah, I guess I could dump my Daily Casts since they're a bit of a tempo hit, but I always seem to find a lull in the action to throw these down.

Why I've Had Worse?

This is what got me to put this deck together in the first place.

For starters, it's a fantastic Scorched protection with a single Plascrete in play. All you have to do is hold onto one or two and you're set. Yeah, it's a whopping six influence, costing me a Lucky Find and maybe a Legwork, but the siren song of the card draw is just too much for me to resist.

You cut Deus X from classic PPvP Kate!! You might take some heavy net damage!

I've had worse.
