Ampère Attacks! — 2nd Place, VPC Highlander, 2-1

Nykride 307

Wanted to build something that would threaten kills without needing the runner to run into traps. Tried to include a mix of proactive threats and threats that needed the runner to run.

The ice is a couple gearchecks, some taxing taxing ice, and some ice meant to bluff or threaten kills. Anansi and Fairchild 3.0 serve double-duty as both taxing and threatening ice.

For a spicy include, tried out False Flag, which I thought might be a good surprise wincon if it was called as a trap after an install-advance-advance turn. I didn't end up drawing it, so not sure how well it works, but it did end up being a 2-credit tax (it was trashed twice out of R&D).

Was really happy with the deck overall, felt like it had as much of a plan as Ampère can. The slots I'm still not confident about are Hokusai Grid and Saisentan, which might be better replaced by gearchecks (Wraparound? Hagen? Border Control?) to defend R&D.

Game 1: Win vs enkoder: I started the game with End of the Line in hand. enkoder ran into a double-advanced Cerebral Overwriter on a Mitosis turn. A couple turns later I drew into HHN with enough of a credit differential to force him to take and keep at least one tag, and EOTL dealt the final blow.

Game 2: Loss vs TyrellCorp: TyrellCorp ripped two agendas off the top in the first three turns before I drew ice. Definitely a hazard of a wide deck like this, but I never managed to keep him out centrals effectively.

Game 3: Win vs pj20: I managed to score an ARES on turn 2 and draw into econ assets early. pj20 ran faceplanted into Fairchild 3.0 while Stargating, and I chose to give him the core. The tempo hit he took from the Fairchild credit tax let me score Armed Intimidation, which forced him to go tag-me. Tag-me actually served him well since I didn’t draw any tag punishment for ~10 turns, but my huge economy kept him out of centrals, and fear of death from assets forced him to run the remote. I drew BOOM! on the same turn I had seamless in hand with the winning agenda on the table. ARES was definitely MVP this game, and I was served well by a very fortunate draw order.

Want to shoutout tzeentchling for being an awesome organizer and to the SF Bay Area netrunners who came out and made the day super fun! Good games, and congrats enkoder for taking home the win!
