I Can't do a Heist. Heist is a Crimes - 1st place Aldershot

TR1S 625

I've got blings!

Don't laugh, I'm being cool.

Inspiration

The new MWL has meant that my Siphon Whizz deck was no longer playable. That in addition to the likely resurgence of glacier in the meta and corresponding hit to Anarchs meant that I needed to come up with a different deck to play. So I used the following thought process the morning of the tournament:

i) Should I build a new deck? - Yes.

ii) Should it be a sensible deck? - Yes.

iii) Should it have 3 copies of Account Siphon in it? - It already does.

So criminal then.

Doing the Corp a Frighten

So this is basically a good stuff criminal list with some tech to deal with the inevitable Ash and Caprice rubbish. I actually hadn't picked an ID when I arrived in Aldershot and was weighing up just playing Los. I asked for people's opinions and was pretty much universally told "the hell is your problem? Just play Andy you scrub". Except by Catherine who said I should play Leela. She was then upset when I told her that Leela is rubbish. So it's was a good stuff Andy list.

Most of the stuff is the usual criminal fair. Aaron continues to be an outrageously broken card (why on earth does he trigger when YOU steal an agenda????), and the Temujian contract gives you more money than God. I was a bit sceptical about security testing in a glacier based meta that can ice servers quickly, but it was actually surprisingly handy in supporting your credit denial game, as it presented corps with a dilemma about rezzing to deny you credits, or letting you have them to save themselves some. Kati replaced John because I thought that a long term source of credits might be useful and John tends to be bad when everything is iced and you don't like tags. Two Legworks and medium are basically all the multi-access pressure you need.

The sekrit tek comes in the form of two Pol Ops and a Councilman. The Pol Ops are the obvious include for dealing with Caprice and Ash, but the Councilman is a little bit of a weird include. I've found it a useful card to be able to drop before a siphon as it typically prevents unprepared corps from dodging it with a Crisium Grid of another unrezzed upgrade. Additionally, he is a useful way of addressing irritating things like Hokusai grid in the PU match-up. He is probably a flex slot but he did some work for me.

Tournament Performance

The deck went 6-1 on the day, losing only to Potential Unleashed. This is a horrendous match-up for criminal and has been made worse by the addition of Kakugo. Quite how Damon thought criminals could deal with this aside from being forced to spend influence on a net shield or feedback filter is beyond me. I tried the normal PU thing of playing it slow, getting all my breakers and checking sporadically, but this burnt through much of my deck (your breakers and special orders are ALWAYS at the bottom) and by the time I could contest I had very few cards. I was reduced to just clicking for credits for ages and eventually just chose to run a double advanced Fetal to end it and have more time for the corp game. As it turns out, the way to actually beat PU is to run R&D like a psycho turn 1 and lose your entire hand (including paperclip to netdamage), then have the paperclip ark lockdowned and then continue to run like a psycho until you win. I don't recommend this strategy at all but I am pleased that playing like an Anarch worked in the Final. #SiphonAnarchLife

Wins were against Jinteki Biotech, Trappy CI, Foodcoats, IG49, Fiery Info Sync, and PU.

Changes

Erm... More Siphons?

Obviously, any and all suggestions are welcome :)

** Edit: @Nemamiah has demanded that I pay penance for running a 46 card deck. So here it is:

"I must play 45 card decks" "I must play 45 card decks" "I must play 45 card decks" etc...

My spicy meta recommendation for this meta is Los (although Andy is hard to beat). Sadly none of the three people i told listened.

Also Leela is not rubbish! Alice will back me up on this.

@emilyspine this shell isn't terrible out of Los. I see tons of people trying to make derezzing work and I think that's just a waste of slots. This is a far better build that allows you to actually take advantage of Los' early aggression. You face check early and often to force the corp into a dilemma - either they rez, lose tempo and give you cash, or they don't and give you an access or other value. I don't think he is a bad ID and certainly is the best criminal option when Andy rotates.

You see what I did there? I said he is the best - implying that Leela is not.

I was looking for changes to make to good stuff Andy deck with new MWL, so this peaked my interest. Basically you had the same thoughts I did, and implemented better fixes. I'm going to go with this list for league night tonight.

How do you feel about Abagnale when it drops in a 10 days?

@Conphas I think the one change I would make for league night is to drop in a Sneakdoor for the Councilman. I like him and he does work, but the Sneakdoor is better Caprice tech, allows you to install Pol Ops, and can force the corp to divert annoying ice away from R&D and HQ onto archives, which is always good.

I will probably replace Mongoose with it. I love Mongoose, but it seems like double stacking sentries is all the rage at the moment, so you need to not have to install Femme if you can avoid it.

I don't think the influence is particularly necessary, and Gordian/Passport are better in situations with a lot of cheap, low strength Code Gates. It is only really Fairchild 3.0 where the numbers are the same and it is horrendous against DNA Tracker. I might look at Lustig as a potential Mongoose replacement if people start stacking sentries like crazy, but I'd still probably rather have the Mongoose.

I was thinking Abagnale/Yog would be a good code gate suite with a 2nd datasucker.

That said, 2 of us were running your Andy list last night. She went 3-1. The loss was to a Titan deck where the breakers and special orders all seemed to be at the bottom of the deck.

@Conphas that's interesting, thought at that point I am not actually sure you need the Abagnale. The second datasucker is enough to get it out soon, and you still have passport to deal with lotus field on a central, or Femme if it is on a remote. The concern would be that it increases the number of pieces you draw into and you increase the risk that you end up in your friend's situation.
