Play 2 Big Deal! (1st @ Southern Australia Nationals 2024)

F3nr1s 204

For my more general thoughts on Netrunner, Life, Winning, the Tournament, and everything check out my runner deck Here!

Maninthemoon has a great decklist, which I made enough changes to so that people think they know what they're playing against. they see me on 4 points and an Archology worth of credits, Burner HQ and bottom the Big Deal. easy enough, they can relax for a turn or two now.

WRONG

SECOND BIG DEAL THE IKAWAH FOR THE WIN

I mean this mostly in jest, but having a second copy of a win condition was a huge advantage to me throughout a tournament full of disruption and runner tricks.

The Deck

Seriously Big Ups to Maninthemoon's Shoot the Moon, its such a cool idea that I have undoubtedly made worse in order to make it better suit me. I'm gonna try to give my analysis of why the deck works but please know the core idea wasn't mine.

Going into my first Tournament I wanted a simple deck that is robust enough against Runner disruption and reliable enough to let me play through bad draws.

The Plan is to go as fast as possible, maybe chuck a Drafter on HQ (always drafter HQ: Chastuska, Burner, DoOF, I can go on) set up a remote of 2 ice and then push as fast as possible, score a Midnight-3 Archology with Seamless Launch to do at least an 8 credit Your Digital Life (YDL) which is enough to threaten the next score, and ideally close the game out with Big Deal Ikawah Project.

The core that supports this is 100% YDL I found myself recurring it even when both my seamlessess were in the bin. It is going to get banned someday. The amount of games where I have gone down to 2, 1, or even 0 credits, Yodelled and back up to 10+ credits is unbelievable. It’s so strong that you can actually afford to play both big deals. chaining a Seamlessed Midnight into, YDL Midnight Big deal into, Ikawah Advance Big Deal to win in 3 turns is what convinced me to keep playing the deck.

The Ice: I had so much money so I found Tatu-Bola to be irrelevant, Border Control feels like such a powerful splash in any rush Precision Design deck that I couldn't pass it by. I don't think I ever had to pop it, but it’s existence meant I could score safely on much smaller scoring windows than the runner is expecting. Hagen is another major shoutout, I was expecting a LOT of atypical runner rigs and Hagen is a blessing against them trashing an Aumakua or Physarum feels so mean. other than those it’s just good HB ice. Gatekeeper is even more GOATED with YDL, never shuffle anything back. Brân 1.0 is always taxing, M.I.C. is so good into Ikawah, and acting like another soft Border Control is appreciated, Drafter is GOATED, Ansel 1.0 probably could have been cut.

The real secret to this deck, like any PD, is that you can glacier up real well if you have to. there's enough draw and econ to afford icing up centrals against Sable or viruses. and it goes so fast when you push the accelerator that purging is much easier than you think. Another strength of the Ice suite is a must trash for an Arruaceiras Crew deck. And the deck has enough econ to rez ice faster than they can trash it.

Obligatory Praise be to The Lord and Savior of Corps that allow us to play this game at all. In the face of ever increasing Runner skateboard tricks: The Rashida Jaheem. Rashida into YDL has paid off all the credits I have ever lost against Doof. ever. I’m so glad i got to play standard before she rotates next year. The Spin Doctor (who?) is also real good as always. though I was mainly using him for draw and not recursion, saving him for when I REALLY was flooded and needed to bin some excess agendas I didn't need to win the game

In retrospect I probably should have cut the Ansel or Hedge Fund for the seamless. but I never really felt I was missing them. maybe I would have won harder? but its unclear.

Shoot the Moon is probably still the stronger deck and I haven't the foggiest what you'd cut for a second big deal while keeping its power and consistency up. but this worked for me! Not dropping a game the whole tournament...

Except! My newly discovered Arch-Nemesis, SpaceIce, on a Mercury triple Femme Fatale Spark Rejig deck. who on 2 points the turn I have the Ikawah to win the game installed, Inside Jobed archives to steal an Offworld, bouncing the Ikawah, Reprised the HQ ice, saw NOTHING with mercury + twinning. and then ran back third click to steal the Ikawah off a 1 in 10. In the Hypest moment of the whole day Resetting the bracket and forcing one final game.
We had a hell of a weekend, playing each other 4 times with 2 wins each and our only losses were to each other. Truly a worthy opponent! Our future battles will be Legendary!

I'm glad you had fun with the deck. It's always cool to see how players update a deck to match their play style. 3x Hedge Fund will definitely make the list richer. Congrats on the win, Australian National Champ!!!
